Yellooooo!!

I have been away for what… Six-seven months??

I am actually kind of nervous writing this blog entry. Been such a long time, so much has happened, need to do a lot of catching up…

I guess another important thing I need to include in my New Year Resolution list is “Blog regularly” Oh! And if in case you are wondering if I fulfilled any of my 2008 NY resolutions… then NOPE!! I never learn…

This was just a ‘HI there’ blog… I promise to be back.

Cheers!!

My new pup

May 19, 2008 - 22 Responses

Bruno

He is my new puppy. A 49 days old Lab.

We got him home this Sunday. We always planned on this, but then we had concerns. This week I guess one thing led to another and we decided to go ahead and buy one. So imagine when I told dad that we are buying a pup tomorrow. He didn’t realise that we were serious about it until we started discussing the name.

So the parents made bro and me listen to The list before we went to bed on Saturday. It will be family – you can’t leave it alone and go out on trips – you need to treat it like a child – keep it clean – where will you keep him? – no entering the kitchen – and certainly not sleeping on anyone’s bed – walks and training is your responsibility – keep a name that’s easy to call – what breed is it?… ok!… what is the history? Does it bark a lot? How tall will he be? … ok… Remember… it’s a C O M M I T M E N T!!

“Oh my GOD” was the first thing I said when I saw him. I didn’t touch him. Looked at him resting in the doc’s arm and felt like I was now a mother of a smart looking dude! He is by far the cutest puppy I have ever seen. So after listening to the do’s and do not’s we left the clinic with a list of names. Hector, Troy, Oscar, Dude… I think even Archie, Jughead and Hotdog was suggested by a kid. My bro and I had picked up Dexter, Buddy and Avon.

So all he does is eat, sleep, does his stuff, and the cycle repeats. Night times he is pretty cranky. He wants to play, run around… and of course eat! Ya, we are all waiting for him to turn three months so that we can train him. He keeps his sleeping and eating area very neat, but has turned our living room into his bathroom. Oh boy, now I know what responsibility means.

The first time my angel barked was minutes after the above photo was taken. I took him to my room. Mom and I were discussing him. I was trying to take a pic. And this chap gets all excited because of ‘the’ reflection in the mirror. He would do the walk, pretend to sleep, lick the mirror, tried biting off the head of the ‘other’ dog, basically asking his own refection, “can you do it?’ Oh yes it could. And probably that irritated him. He got a bit offensive and barked. Loud enough to scare himself, and to get me on my feet. I was jumping literally thrilled with the fact that my dog could bark!! Lol. And no, he has not barked since!

He is so full of things, and this is such an experience!

Oh, and by the way, he is called Bruno! And two other friends told me their Lab’s are also called Bruno!! I just hope my Bruno won’t complain about how common his name is!!

Bow-wow-ow

Mom, before I was myself…

May 11, 2008 - 12 Responses

mother

Before I was myself you made me, me
With love and patience, discipline and tears,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,
Allowing me to sail upon my sea,
Though well within the headlands of your fears.
Before I was myself you made me, me

With dreams enough of what I was to be
And hopes that would be sculpted by the years,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,

Relinquishing your powers gradually
To let me shape myself among my peers.
Before I was myself you made me, me,

And being good and wise, you gracefully
As dancers when the last sweet cadence nears
Bit by bit stepped back to set me free.

For love inspires learning naturally:
The mind assents to what the heart reveres.
And so it was through love you made me, me
By slowly stepping back to set me free.

Paanchvi pass se tez?

May 10, 2008 - 5 Responses

If I had a teacher who wore a fitting waistcoat, a deep dimple, a brilliant sense of humor, would allow me to cheat, teach me a bit or two about tango and salsa, and make hi-fi a new child style statement. I WOULD NEVER BE A PAANCHVI PAAS! KASAM SE!

Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai? On Star Plus has Shah Rukh Khan playing the cool teacher. The five chweet students who fill his classroom are the familiar kido faces you see on TV soaps and ads. And the participants are 18 plus, who have time and time again looked into the camera and said, “I so-n-so, am a this-n-that, and would like to tell you all that I am not as tez as a paanchvi paas.” Oh! All in the name of good spirit of course. But I know that “we” all know the value of five crores more than a paanchvi paas student.

Ok, the show is a hit. Give us anything with kids, money and SRK, we will grab it and keep it. But seriously, most of the questions are pretty tough for 5thgraders. And having studied in CBSE myself, I don’t remember learning most of it till high school. And I wonder how the “Burma” answer that Shreya gave to the question, “Which country lies to the east of Chennai?” be correct? Frankly speaking, most of the time I don’t know the answers, and I’ll confess that I am not Paanchvi Paas Se Tez only if SRK teaches me a bit of salsa!!

And like the kids say….. Kalvida!!

Movie quirks

April 7, 2008 - 12 Responses

Poonam and Nova tagged me to list my top 10…

Leg s p a c e: This is the most important thing to me. I have long legs, and before the multiplex vogue hit us, most of the theatres had the rows pretty close to each other… AHhh! how I longed to stretch my leg. After-all who hates comfort?

Reviews: I dont believe in movie reviews. When I interned with a newspaper 3 yrs ago, I realised the politics that go into it, and from then on I stopped believing in it. A bunch of friends and I belong to the same genere, so word of mouth counts.

Eat n’ sip: Popcorn/cornpuffs and pepsi… these are a part of my movie watchin experience. Sometimes the movie is so bad that I only concentrate on what I am eating.

Emotions: They rock n’ roll. LITERALLY! I cry, laugh, uh, ah, and ouch, I smile if the actor appeals to me, or wonder how the actor got through the screen test. I clap, can’t whistle, but I hoot and shout. It’s all about living in the moment, isin’t it?

Preference: horror, comedy, romance-comedy, action, toe curling romance, family, drama, children, thriller, musical…

Songs: Sometimes I watch a movie because I love a song in it. But again, the choreography better be good.

Morning shows: I got used to this during my degree days. PVR was a 2 min walk away from my college, and they had a fantastic offer of Rs.50 on weekdays for the morning shows. We made the best use of it.

Company: Watching movies with a group is much more enjoyable.

Actor: Sometimes I watch a movie only because my favourite actor is in it. And no matter how many people think the movie sucked, I will watch it again.

The others: I hate people using their mobile while the movie is showing, I hate it when people move around, I hate it when I am sitting in hearing distance of someone who has already seen the movie and is acting all smart. I hate it when I hear the crunching of popcorn, especially if it’s not me who is doing it! I hate it when I wear kajal…n’ I cry…n’and my friends wonder why… can’t they understand? But again, I hate it when a baby cries. I dont understand why the parents bring them!I hate it when a good movie ends, some times I hate it when an interval ends, I hate it when there is overacting, I hate movies that are not bright and colourful… Par kisee mahaan aadmi ne kaha hai, “picture abhi baaki hai…”

Race, Bollywood 2008

3plus

Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, Akshay Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Katrina kaif, Sameera Reddy

The race track has six players, six lanes, all different shades of nothing good, too many surprise turnings… speed breakers are nothing but ‘uh’ and ‘uhhh’z. The only thing obvious here is that they are all jerk-bitch-crooks… people you never wish to meet in real life.

I liked the movie. Super direction, brilliant music and when you have six people with great brains and body fighting for a couple of million, it makes it more than interesting. Many are comparing this movie to Dhoom. It may not be there yet, but surely a must watch, at-least once. It has horses, fast cars, brilliant music and a whole lot of South Africa. But more than this and that, it also has dashing hunks and hot babes, money, jealousy, back-stabbing, grudge, twists and turns, friends, girlfriends and adultery.

I am not a big fan of Akshay Khanna, but he is good. Though he has put on a bit of weight, he did full justice to his character. Saif is the bad guy that every girl has fallen for. Kareena, you better watch out lady. Anil Kapoor… this guy totally surprises me. He still seems to be romancing girls who are more-or-less his daughter’s age. I find it really stupid. Bipasha is HOT. Katrina is good looking. Sameera is okay, but the question still bothers me… What was she doing in the movie??

But apart from watching movies, I also am attending classes. Kind of. I have shortage in a couple of subjects, and I didn’t know that until a letter was sent home! What happened after that was a bit of dishoom-dishoom… lol

27 dresses

March 17, 2008 - 7 Responses

27 Dresses cast: Katherine Heigl, James Marsden, Edward Burns, Malin Akerman

No, I didn’t want to watch this movie. And surely not on the first day. My best friend… and she was the only one who was “sooo” sure that the movie will be good. She knew something about the story, and found it pretty exciting. So there we were… four girls, with a not-so-sure-how-this-Friday-will-go types attitude, and at the end of it, it was pUrfect… and we (also) loved the movie!

The story is about this girl (KH), 27 times bridesmaid, and is foolishly in love with her boss (EB), who in turn falls for her model sister (MA), It ends with how her 28th dress is her wedding dress! F i n a l l y (with a little help from this journalist who writes about weddings)

Emotions, humor, fun, jealousy, romance, lies, truth, grudge, fashion, tears… this is what this movie was all about.

Today I was telling a friend about the ‘latest movie I checked out’ and his first reaction was, “after window shopping, actuall shopping, a wardrobe full of dresses, you had to go and watch a movie that had 27 dresses in it! when will you women clan learn to be satisfied yaar?” Oh, the answer is simple… NEVER
